Frequently asked questions - EHEW Online Learning

I have not received my letter, could you post to another practice?
No, it is not possible to send out another letter. However we can email the documents and promo codes to you.

Can correspondence be sent to my home address?
Unfortunately not. EHEW related documents must be posted to an EHEW registered practice address. Locums must provide the name of one practice where they regularly work in order to remain on the EHEW register. These details are maintained by WOPEC. Please notify us on WECS@Cardiff.ac.uk of any future changes.

Can I have an extension to the lecture completion deadline?
You are required to complete both the cataract AND glaucoma distance learning by Sunday 17th January 2016. We wish to ensure that all learning is complete and CET points issued before practitioners attend the EHEW events. There are nearly 650 EHEW accredited practitioners so please be aware that the deadline is not flexible. We will of course accept that there are times when circumstances beyond your control may mean that you cannot make the deadline. In line with Cardiff University policy, we would need you to contact us AHEAD of the deadline and as soon as you are aware you may miss it. We will require evidence of the reason you were not able to complete the lectures (eg a doctor’s note showing that you were ill for a significant portion of the time the lectures have been available). We will not be able to accept technical or internet connection problems as a reason for non-completion of the lectures unless you have been in touch with WOPEC and we have been unable to help you.

What about my CET points? I do not need any before Christmas.
Please note that the CET three year cycle is coming to an end. It is up to you when you complete each lecture, but please be aware you can only claim CET points for the current 2012-2015 cycle if complete the online learning before December 16th 2015 (when WOPEC submits all its CET for the end of year cycle). Any online learning done after the 31st December will count towards the new CET cycle (2016-2018). In order to comply with the GOC CET requirements it is necessary to suspend multiple choice questions between 17th – 31st December. The lectures will still be available to watch during this period.

Do I have to complete all the distance learning before I book my re-accreditation event?
No. Once you receive the email inviting you to book a place on a single event, you may do so. Select one that suits you date and location wise. We cannot book this for you - you must do it yourself on the WOPEC website.

I have completed LOCSU Cataract distance learning series, do I need to do Welsh Cataract?
Yes. This Cataract series is similar to LOCSU, but all the lectures were recently reviewed and details updated, including the multiple choice questions. Some lectures have been completely restructured and re-recorded.

I have completed LOCSU Glaucoma distance learning series or have the College of Optometrists’ Professional Certificate, do I need to do Welsh Glaucoma?
No, but please inform us that this is the case. The lectures are similar. If you wish to refresh your memory or complete to obtain the CET points, you may use the promo code and undertake the lecture and MCQs.
