This course is designed specifically to develop the knowledge and practical technique on all competencies required for the Royal College of Ophthalmologist’s Refraction Certificate Exam. It is for those who are more experienced and it is a good opportunity to perfect these skills.

There will be a mock OSCE situation: ten different stations under timed exam conditions. Feedback is offered on the performances. A refraction routine video is viewed with the opportunity to discuss the techniques observed. Prior to the event attendees will have online access via the WOPEC website to 3 lectures on different refraction techniques.

The University facilities are ideal for this course: there is access to a fully equipped dispensing workshop and use of the Optometry department refraction clinic. There will be numerous supervisors, all experienced in teaching refraction. They comprise of optometrists, academic staff and ophthalmologists.

The duration of the course is 2.5 days (Friday 2pm until Sunday 4pm), to be held three times a year, corresponding with the RCO practical exam dates.
