  • 48 hours notice - 75% refund
  • 24 hours notice - 50% refund
  • On the day or no notice of cancellation - no refund.

The assessment is in the form of 5 assessment stations, each takes 5 minutes. Please allow 60 minutes for the whole assessment process. You will receive a briefing prior to your assessment and may be required to remain for the following session to sit as a 'patient' for your colleagues. The assessment is based on the 4 LOCSU Glaucoma distance learning lectures. These lectures and MCQs must be successfully completed three days before the event occurs.

Practitioners must be registered with the GOC and hold a 'GOC-' number in order to book on the assessment.

Results will be emailed 2-3 weeks after the event has occurred. Practitioners who cancel their booking or fail to attend this assessment without prior contact with WOPEC at least 5 days before the event may be issued with an exam fee of £125 from Cardiff University.

Assessment stations:

  1. Measuring IOP with a Goldmann applanation tonometer (on a patient)
  2. Calibration of a Goldmann applanation tonometer
  3. Van Herick’s peripheral chamber depth assessment (on a patient)
  4. Slit lamp binocular indirect ophthalmoscopy (Volk) examination of the optic nerve head (model eyes)
  5. Written short answer glaucoma case study

Practice makes perfect - Experience dictates that, if you are relatively new to any of the four techniques named above, it would be advisable to gain as much practice as possible between now and the event. It is expected that you are performing these techniques regularly on your routine patients, particularly the use of a Goldmann tonometer (T Type).
