Gonioscopy - Sunday 7th December

This one day event is designed specifically for practitioners and healthcare specialists keen to enhance their knowledge and practice of assessing the anterior eye with a gonioscopy lens. Each attendee will receive a disposable gonioscopy lens to take away to practice with (single, 3 or 4 mirror).

Interactive and peer discussion CET points will be available.

The course will involve the following:

Distance learning lecture - structure of the angle and an introduction to gonioscopy

Skills workshop 1 - learning how to use a gonioscopy lens

Skills workshop 2 - interpreting what you see

Peer discussion - small group discussion on everyday cases, both acute and chronic symptoms, which may occur in practice and the HES.  Topics to be discussed include diagnosis, management, possible management (in practice and in HES) and expected outcomes, short and long term.

Each workshop will begin with a concise overview and lead to a hands on practical session with real patients. Delegates will be in small groups closely guided by expert tutors.  There will be a variety of gonioscopy lenses to practice with.

OCT - Sunday 15th February

This is a one day event designed especially for eye care practitioners new to using Ocular Coherence Tomography or those who sporadically utilize it and wish to gain confidence so they may introduce OCT in to their regular practice of patient diagnosis, management and referral.

Experienced tutors will guide small groups of attendees though the functions of a variety of models. Practicing on themselves and volunteer patients with healthy eyes. Interpretation of the results will be discussed. The second workshop will involve volunteer patients with anomalies of their eye. There will be a lecture relating OCT. The day concludes with 2 hours of peer discussion cases.

Binocular vision - Sunday 22nd March

This one day event consits of lectures, case discussion groups and workshops with real patients to assess.  It has been specifically designed for practitioners wishing to gain knowledge and confidence when managing patients presenting with binocular vision anomalies.  Delegates will be tutoried and supervised in small groups by expert facilitators.  Lectures will discuss concomitant and incomitant strabismus, and workshops will focus on basic techniques, routines and examination of patients with anomalies.

Enhance your routine clinical skills - Wednesday 22nd April

This is a day long event.  The morning session consists of two workshops designed to enable the practitioner to boost skills used in everyday practice. It would be particularly useful for those who have completed the LOCSU Glaucoma or LOCSU PEARS distance learning series. Techniques to be covered include Goldmann applanation tonometry, Perkins, Volk BIO lens assessment of the fundus and assessment of the anterior eye (includes disc measurement, Van Herick and Smith's technique). There will be real patients for you to practice the techniques on. The afternoon comprises a lecture and peer discussion group on aspects of eye examination and record keeping. Optional poster session included.
